Product Review: AlpineStars Pressure Air-Flo Gloves - From RoadBike Nov/Dec 2008

Product Evaluation: Rider Gear
AlpineStars Pressure Air-Flo Gloves

By Steve Lita

Knuckle forchettes expand and contract when your fingers flex.

As the summer winds down, I find we still have plenty of warm-weather, midday riding to do. The toasty-warm glove I need for early morning commutes is a bit of overkill for midday heat. Luckily, these Alpinestars Pressure Air-Flo gloves roll up tight to fit in my coat pocket. They’re perfect for when the mercury rises. I kept them handy on some recent long trips. I like that I don’t lose much sensation in my fingertips. I can even count out bills for tolls without removing the Pressure gloves.

Alpinestars makes a wide variety of gloves for all types of weather. While many of its designs are geared toward the “extreme” rider, the styling here is tastefully subtle and low-key. Pressure Air-Flos are lightweight, leather and Air-Flo-mesh, short-cuff riding gloves. Everyone who sees them thinks they’re dirt bike gloves, but trust me, they’re tough enough for street riding and Alpinestars classifies them that way. The Pressure is perfect for summer street riding with a combination of effective venting and tough construction for comfort and safety in warm riding conditions.

Alpinestars builds them with an Air-Flo-mesh main upper for efficient cooling. The fabric on the top panel is a lightweight stretch fabric. Inside is a full-grain leather palm with Clarino reinforcement for comfort and abrasion resistance. Additional fingertip protection is provided by a perforated-leather overlay.

The wrist closure is Velcro for fit adjustment and security. The fingers are pre-shaped with comfortable and cool internal finger forchettes. That’s what Alpinestars calls them, I say they’re slits. And there’s that cool Alpinestars logo detail on wrist and finger. Other colors are available; namely white, red, or blue, and the sizes range from S to 3XL. —Steve Lita
