Book/DVD Review: "Ride Like A Pro For The Ladies DVD" - From RoadBike August 2005
Ride Like A Girl Jerry “Motorman” Palladino has come out with another handy educational DVD, and this time, it’s for the ladies. However, while the DVD shows women riders demonstrating the techniques, the exercises should be practiced by all riders, regardless of gender, pant size, or miles under the belt. The Motorman begins by showing ways riders can alter their bikes to better fit their body type — something that’s often an issue for women. Jerry also has his posse demonstrate the proper technique for lifting a fallen motorcycle. The riding techniques outlined in the 90-minute DVD include keeping your head and eyes up, riding within the friction zone, and dragging the rear brake through slow maneuvers. The demonstrations include a slow cone weave, offset weave, slow circles, U-turns, intersections, figure eights, countersteering, and proper braking techniques. All of the exercises are done first by Jerry, then by the four women, all on different cruisers. Overall, the DVD does a good job showing that women of all shapes and sizes can do many things they may have been doubtful about. It would be an excellent supplement to an MSF course or a great gift for a new rider. As Jerry says, if someone tells you that you ride like a girl, take it as a compliment.
