Product Evaluation: Rider Gear By Tricia Szulewski Every year brings exciting, new, performance-oriented products to the largest-growing segment of motorcycle sales — the women’s market. But there are still too few choices for a rider like me, who refuses to compromise quality for value. When scouting for a women’s sport-touring-style boot, I came up short. Most manufacturers that even carry women-specific products seem to offer just one style, while for the men there’s an array of choices with ranging price points. So while I want to encourage the aftermarket to continue to support the girls, like most of us on a budget I sometimes have to go over to the other side. I found what I was looking for with the Set Up Sunrise H2Os. For just $130, they’re loaded with all the features I want. So after an exhaustive search for a comparable women’s style, I was finally willing to order this bargain boot in a men’s size. The calf-high boot is water-resistant, and offers extra support in the shin, ankle, heel, and toe areas. The external ankle support is too high and doesn’t actually cover my ankle, but the internal disc is lower, in just the right spot. Hopefully, I’ll never find out if this combination works. The tough, water-resistant, synthetic leather upper is double-stitched in all the right places. Horizontal pleats in the front ankle area provide the rider enough flexibility, without compromising the material by creating creases. The boot’s interior is lined with a cotton-poly blend and is extremely comfortable due to the padding, material, and arch support. Secured with a full-length zippered closure, the large flap allows you to open the boot wide while keeping your feet dry. The first few times I wore the Sunrises, the fit around my calf was very tight, and the zipper was tough to pull all the way up. But after a few rides, they became easier to get on, and they fit nice and snug. The sole does a great job providing traction in any given situation. My only real beef with the boots is the single strip of reflective piping. It’s located in the upper area, which is covered when I’m riding. I’d prefer to see a small reflective strip down on the heel. But, all nitpicking aside, for this kind of money, you can’t go wrong with these boots. RB
