Motorcycle Product Review, Triumph Steve McQueen Jacket

Triumph-Steve-McQueen-Jacket-1 “Racing is life. Anything before or after is just waiting.” —Steve McQueen

Commemorating the special relationship between Triumph and Steve McQueen, this jacket is an updated version of the one the actor wore at the International Six Days Trial (ISDT) competition in 1964, when he competed for the US team on a Triumph 650.

And when we say updated, we don’t mean appearance. True to the icon of cool himself, the jacket maintains the simple, hardy appearance of the one McQueen wore. But it’s outfitted with modern features like a slim cut, contemporary materials, and state-of-the-art hardware. It comes in navy blue with a thin red, white, and blue racing stripe down the left side; it’s got a Triumph patch on the left breast and a subtle repro of the actor’s signature on one shoulder. The jacket features an outer layer of microfiber that’s bonded directly onto the waterproof and windproof Tri-Tex membrane for extra protection. Still, the outer shell is soft and doesn’t feel processed or synthetic. The sleeves are roll-quilted on the inside of the elbows, providing comfort and flexibility without that molded feel or appearance, and the arm openings snug up to the wrists with a combination of an expansion zipper and a button snap. The neck snaps in two places, but if you don’t want it closed, the strap cleverly snaps out of the way inside the subtly padded mandarin collar. There is a storm flap up the front zipper to keep the elements out, a zippered waist connection to attach riding pants, and side adjustment zippers. For storage, two outside zippered pockets are plenty big enough to stuff your hands into. The liner has its own set of zippered pockets: two on the hip and slot access to the two zippered inside breast pockets on the shell.

Combining stylish design with high-performance functionality, this comfortable and cool jacket, officially licensed by the McQueen estate, works in wet or dry weather, from spring to autumn.
