Often times, people living in a certain region become unaware of the geographical treasures that lie minutes or even a short ride away from their home bases. The Grand Motorcycle Tour of Virginia with the help of Sena Technologies, Inc. and other sponsors is looking to change that by inviting motorcycle riders to go on the ultimate passport tour of the Commonwealth. From the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Chesapeake Bay, motorcyclists from all over the state and the country are invited to ride the scenic byways and highways of the “Old Dominion” in the Grand Motorcycle Tour of Virginia through October 22. To encourage motorcycle riders to frequent local businesses along their routes through the state, the tour offers participants the ability to earn points at each stop. Those who earn enough points, and even bonus points, will be entered to win prizes from sponsors, including a pair of Sena Technologies SMH10 Bluetooth headset/intercom units worth more than $400.
“Motorcycle riders who tour and ride long distances make up a large portion of our core group of customers,” said Marc Woo, president of Sena Technologies, Inc. North and South America. “Partnering with the Grand Motorcycle Tour of Virginia signaled a win-win for both Sena and for the economy of Virginia so we were glad to support the event.”
Tour co-organizer John Dwyier said the event gives riders the chance to explore a whole summer’s worth of adventure across Virginia. He explained that motorcycle enthusiasts join the event because often times, they are not sure of new rides and routes to undertake, and because it provides a sense of community with many riders seeing one another at the same stops.
“Some riders will go on a portion of the tour for a weekend. Some are able to ride all the routes of the entire state over the course of the six-month span of the tour,” said Dwyier. “Not only are we helping sustain and promote our state’s economy, but the nearly 1,000 riders who take part are also exposed to parts of the state they may not have otherwise explored. We are also extremely thankful to sponsors such as Sena Technologies for helping to create a bigger incentive for our riders to take part.”
Two lucky riders who participate in the Grand Virginia Motorcycle Tour will take home the Sena SMH10 Dual. The unit attaches to the rider’s or passenger’s helmet and allows him to connect wirelessly via Bluetooth to a cell phone, mp3 player, GPS and to be able to talk to up to three other riders or passengers in full duplex through intercom for a distance of up to one-half mile.
